What is Cloud Antivirus?

cloudantivirus

Antivirus has traditionally been a pain point for all computer users. Since the internet internet has permeated many aspects of our lives, it is more important than ever to keep data secure. Viruses can cause harm by slowing down a computer and capturing private information to be used maliciously.

The issue with traditional antivirus has always been that it is in constant need of updates and the software itself can slow your computer. For businesses these issues are magnified by having multiple PC’s and laptops, often in different locations that need to be secured consistently. This generally has meant that IT departments need to implement virtual environments that they control or rely on employees to remember to run security updates.

As with most services that are moving to the cloud, the goal is to allow the easiest solution to a problem and make it constantly connected, secure, and accessible. Cloud antivirus does this by taking the process of updating databases and scanning files off a computer and into the cloud.

What this really means is that files are scanned on a remote server using an always updated database of current threats. One reason old antivirus solutions were so intrusive was the constant update reminders. When antivirus is in the cloud, there is no need to be reminded because updates happen all the time on that remote server. Antivirus also has traditionally been a drain on a computers processor but with a cloud solution the effect is minimal.

An important thing to remember with any cloud service is that a reliable high speed internet connection is needed. For most businesses owners and personal users this shouldn’t be a problem, high speed internet and wifi access are very common almost anywhere. Cloud antivirus is a great solution to ensure peace of mind without needing a full time IT staff at your business.
